News Item: Hapkido Demo Team - calling all Black Belts

Black Belt TrainingOne of the suggestions arising from the last Black Belt Conference was to establish a Hapkido Demo Team that would be available for demos anywhere, anytime.

Master Brown was asked to be the Coach for the Hapkido Demo Team and is asking for volunteer Black Belts to be trained up to be able to participate in our demos.

There would be about 6 core routines that would need to be learnt and perfected and then individuals would be asked to come up with their own routines for demos. In this way we would have a pool of black belts we can call on to do a demo at short notice.

Members of the Demo Team would receive free demo training with Master Brown once a month (one hour of training after each monthly Black Belt class at Brookvale).

Any Black Belt can try out for the team - Master Brown will decide if you have what it takes to be part of the team. Want to give something back to your art? Want to stretch yourself and see how good you can be? Then come along to the demo training. if you have a routine you would like to show Master Brown - then bring whatever/whoever you need to the training.

For now the demo training is only open to Black Belts.

News Item: Black Belt Classes in 2008

Black Belt TrainingThis year Black Belt Classes in Sydney will be held on the first Sunday of every month at 3:30 pm at Brookvale Dojang. If there are any changes they will be adivsed on the web site. All Black Belts who are actively training will be sent an email (as per the Black Belt Register) as a reminder of the training.

All Sydney Black Belts unable to attend must notify Master Brown prior to the training. Master Brown will be paying particular attention to Black Belts this year and keeping a close eye on your standards and approach to Hapkido.

For Black Belts who cannot attend on Sundays, Master Brown has a regular class every Saturday at Mona Vale - so if you cannot attend Sunday then you can still attend at least one Saturday per month with Master Brown.

Put these dates in your calendar - plan to be there - be organised - be consistent. Remember a Black Belt is not something you wear - it is something you are - you will need to work at it for the rest of your life.

News Item: Video from the last Black Belt training session

Black Belt TrainingLast Saturday a Black Belt training session was held at Brookvale. Master Brown takes a special black belt class the first weekend of every month. Here is a short video to give students a glimpse of what goes on at these sessions. Black tips are encouraged to attend as well to help prepare for their gradings. As you will see these sessions are fun and a great way of improving your understanding of more advanced aspects of Hapkido.
Click on this link to download the video or visit the Downloads section - the video is in the Movies section. The video is about 9.4 Mb in size.
Thanks also to the cameraman Sidney (student from Mona Vale) who kindly filmed the event.

New time proposed for Sydney Black Belt Classes

I would prefer to start earlier - 8:30am on Sunday
I would prefer to start later - 3:30pm on Sunday
I don't really have a preference
I am not a black belt but I want to have a say!
