The seminar is being hosted by Nicholas Conduit of Conduit Hapkido in Melbourne. It will be conducted over the weekend of September 10th, 11th, 12th 2010.

Master Jeff Allen has 33 years of experience in martial arts. He began training in Korea at the age of 7 where he lived/learned/taught Hapkido, returning to the US in 2000. Master Allen has a unique way of helping you understand the Asian mindset and Hapkido techniques.

Costs

  • Friday Only, 10th September, $65
  • Saturday Only, 11th September, $100
  • Special training will be available on Sunday, 12th September, exclusive to Hapkido black belt students, for an additional $60
The seminar will focus on the physiological & psychological effects of each technique, unbalancing the attacker physically by using physics/geometry & mentally by using their natural fears/desires.

If you would like more information please contact Nicholas Conduit on 0402 232 717 or nicholasconduit@y7mail.com.

News Item: Rare chance to train with Maul Mornie

AnnouncementsFor a few years now I have been following the Youtube videos of a martial artist called Maul Mornie from Brunei (on the coast of Borneo). Initially I saw a few Aikijutsu clips and I was very impressed with his movements, efficiency and flowing. I wondered how someone in a little nation like Brunei would get to learn such a complex art like Aikijutsu so well - I still don't know the answer - but I intend to ask him when he arrives in Australia in August 2010.

Since those earlier clips I noticed a whole lot of clips of Maul Mornie doing a native art from his country called Silat Suffian Bela Diri. These clips are amazing - his timing, efficiency and the ease with which he applies his techniques is wonderful. Even if you don't go and see Maul Mornie - I suggest you look up his clips on Youtube.  Click here to see some great videos on Youtube.

Maul Mornie - master of Silat Suffian Bela Diri from Brunei - click on the photo to see his web site.

I have already paid for my place at his seminar in Melbourne. I reckon it will be a great learning experience and will expose me to new ways of looking at the puzzle of Hapkido.

Maul Mornie will be doing a two day seminar with progressive content through out the two days

Day 1 - Knife and Machete Awareness
Saturday 28th August 2010
1pm - 6.30pm (with half hour break)

Day 2 - Kerambit and empty hands
Sunday 29th August 2010
10am - 4.00pm (with 1 hour break)

Cost:  $120.00 for both days or $70.00 for one day

Venue:  Six Harmonies Kung Fu Academy, Level 1, 78 St-Kilda Rd, St-Kilda Vic 3182

If you are interested in attending contact John Schieven.

Maul Mornie conducts seminars all over the world most weekends of the year - he is sought after all over the world. These days a flight to Melbourne is not expensive - I hope to see you in Melbourne taking advantage of this rare opportunity.

News Item: Membership Renewals for AHA Students Due 1st July 2010

Announcements
Students

Your $30 annual membership fee for the Australian Hapkido Association is due 1st July 2010.

This fee includes your sports injury insurance for the next financial year.

Students who do not renew their membership fee will not be able to train in our clubs because they are not insured and they will not be able to participate in our events (instructor courses, tournaments, seminars, camps, gradings, etc).

In the next few weeks your instructor will give you a form to complete and ask you to add your name to the club's temporary membership list.

You can either return the form to your instructor along with the $30 payment - or you can pay the association and send the form directly to the AHA (details of how to do this are on the form) - your instructor will advise you which method they prefer you to use.

Towards the end of July the association will send your membership cards to your instructor and they will hand them out at class. Make sure you put them in a safe place as you should bring them to gradings, etc.

Instructors

You should have received your Instructor Pack by now (sent on the 17 June 2010) - so please make sure you pay the Club Membership fees promptly as your club will not be insured until this fee is received. You will also need to pay for your Instructor Membership as well ($30).

Why should I pay?

These fees are important to the association so we can maintain a healthy bank balance and undertake projects to benefit the members. These fees go towards paying for advertising, merchandise, special events, master visits from Korea, the web site, instructor courses, etc. The fee also provides for Sports Injury Insurance for students and Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance for Instructors and club owners. By pooling our resources we are able to undertake projects none of us would individually be able to do.

News Item: First Aid Course -Sydney - Sunday 27 June 2010

Announcements

Level 2 Senior First Aid Course

The AHA has organised a Workcover approved Level 2 Senior First Aid Course for AHA students and instructors wishing to obtain or renew their First Aid Certificate. AHA instructors must hold a valid First Aid Certificate, and it is a requirement for Black Belt grading. The course details are:

    Date:     Sunday 27 June 2010
    Time:     9:00am to 5:00pm
Location:     3 Loch Maree Parade, Concord West NSW 2138
    Cost:     $120 (AHA members)

The Level 2 Senior First Aid Certificate course contains a CPR component (which is not covered in a Level 1 course) and is Workcover approved for the workplace. It is equivalent to courses from other providers such as St. Johns and Red Cross. It is valid for 3 years from the date of issue.

To book a place in the course, contact Dominic Salsiccia via email (alchemysolutions@optusnet.com.au) or call his mobile 0412 002678.

Course Style

The style of the First Aid Course is ‘flexible delivery’. This will require participants to complete a manual/workbook prior to the day of the course.  The workbook takes approximately 6-8 hours to complete, and must be submitted before a certificate will be issued.

On the actual day about 70% of the theory is covered, giving participants the opportunity to amend answers or to address any issues they may be unclear about. A practical workshop is held in the morning dealing with CPR and slings. A practical assessment will be held during the afternoon.

A written assessment will also be held at the end of the day (40 multiple choice questions). A pass mark of 70% is required for this component.

This style of delivery is far more user friendly than the traditional 2 day format, as the learning is mostly self directed and the participant has much more time to digest the theory. It also has the benefit of only 1 contact day.

Course Format

The ‘flexible delivery’ style is permissible provided an accredited provider distributes, collects and receipts the participant’s workbooks.

The workbook will be sent to you at least 1 week before the course. If you do not hold a current certificate you must complete the workbook.

Course Requirements

If You do not have a current First Aid Certificate
  • 1 day course (27 June 2010)
  • Completion of workbook prior to course day.
If Your First Aid Certificate is current
  • 1 day course (27 June 2010)
  • People who have a current First Aid Certificate do not have to complete the workbook, however a copy of their current certificate must be attached to the inside front cover.
Important: Check the validity of your certificate before you decide not to fill in the workbook. Check the date on your certificate to ensure it has not expired. If it has expired and your workbook is not complete a First Aid Certificate will not be released!

This course is available to all AHA Members.

  1. Andrew Dunn
  2. Annette Marie
