 | News Item: Membership Renewals for AHA Students Due 1st July 2010 |
 | Students
Your $30 annual membership fee for the Australian Hapkido Association is due 1st July 2010.
This fee includes your sports injury insurance for the next financial year.
Students who do not renew their membership fee will not be able to train in our clubs because they are not insured and they will not be able to participate in our events (instructor courses, tournaments, seminars, camps, gradings, etc).
In the next few weeks your instructor will give you a form to complete and ask you to add your name to the club's temporary membership list.
|
You can either return the form to your instructor along with the $30 payment - or you can pay the association and send the form directly to the AHA (details of how to do this are on the form) - your instructor will advise you which method they prefer you to use.
Towards the end of July the association will send your membership cards to your instructor and they will hand them out at class. Make sure you put them in a safe place as you should bring them to gradings, etc.
Instructors
You should have received your Instructor Pack by now (sent on the 17 June 2010) - so please make sure you pay the Club Membership fees promptly as your club will not be insured until this fee is received. You will also need to pay for your Instructor Membership as well ($30).
Why should I pay?
These fees are important to the association so we can maintain a healthy bank balance and undertake projects to benefit the members. These fees go towards paying for advertising, merchandise, special events, master visits from Korea, the web site, instructor courses, etc. The fee also provides for Sports Injury Insurance for students and Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance for Instructors and club owners. By pooling our resources we are able to undertake projects none of us would individually be able to do.

 | News Item: Great training session at Sutherland with special guest |
  | Many instructors over the past years have been heard saying things like "yeah! it would be great to get Grandmaster Kim over to my club" and "I really should invite him one day".
Well a few months ago, Mitchell Wetherell the instructor at Sutherland, actually picked up the phone, invited Grandmaster Kim and last night all the Sutherland students were treated to a fantastic and inspiring class.
As usual, Grandmaster Kim spoke about focus, discipline and personal practice with clarity and passion.
The students were given simple tasks to attempt, at each step Grandmaster Kim added a new ingredient, use more head movement, move more naturally, how to make you feints more believable, what distance to use, where to aim, when to move, when to strike.
Grandmaster Kim also explained clearly the feeling of each technique. Everyone worked up a sweat and learnt heaps.
A key point Grandmaster Kim showed was how to de-construct a technique and then re-build it so you could know how and when to use it. This lesson could be applied to any technique at any level.
A big thanks goes out to Grandmaster Kim for giving his time and to Mitchell Wetherell for having the initiative to arrange this special gift for his students.
Sorry we have no photos - we were too busy training to stop for photos.
If any other instructors would like Grandmaster Kim to take a class at their dojang - don't talk - do. |

Phil Eizenberg (a 4th Degree instructor from Northern NSW) conducted an interview on the ABC national radio with Rachael Kohn on the show called Spirit of Things. In the interview Phil explains how he teaches victims how to be strong and courageous in body and mind.
There are actually three people in the interview - very interesting listening - thanks to Phil for spreading the word about the good work we do in teaching and spreading the noble art of Hapkido.

 | News Item: First Aid Course -Sydney - Sunday 27 June 2010 |
Level 2 Senior First Aid Course
The AHA has organised a Workcover approved Level 2 Senior First Aid Course for AHA students and instructors wishing to obtain or renew their First Aid Certificate. AHA instructors must hold a valid First Aid Certificate, and it is a requirement for Black Belt grading. The course details are:
Date: Sunday 27 June 2010
Time: 9:00am to 5:00pm
Location: 3 Loch Maree Parade, Concord West NSW 2138
Cost: $120 (AHA members)
The Level 2 Senior First Aid Certificate course contains a CPR component (which is not covered in a Level 1 course) and is Workcover approved for the workplace. It is equivalent to courses from other providers such as St. Johns and Red Cross. It is valid for 3 years from the date of issue.
To book a place in the course, contact Dominic Salsiccia via email (alchemysolutions@optusnet.com.au) or call his mobile 0412 002678.
Course Style
The style of the First Aid Course is ‘flexible delivery’. This will require participants to complete a manual/workbook prior to the day of the course. The workbook takes approximately 6-8 hours to complete, and must be submitted before a certificate will be issued.
On the actual day about 70% of the theory is covered, giving participants the opportunity to amend answers or to address any issues they may be unclear about. A practical workshop is held in the morning dealing with CPR and slings. A practical assessment will be held during the afternoon.
A written assessment will also be held at the end of the day (40 multiple choice questions). A pass mark of 70% is required for this component.
This style of delivery is far more user friendly than the traditional 2 day format, as the learning is mostly self directed and the participant has much more time to digest the theory. It also has the benefit of only 1 contact day.
Course Format
The ‘flexible delivery’ style is permissible provided an accredited provider distributes, collects and receipts the participant’s workbooks.
The workbook will be sent to you at least 1 week before the course. If you do not hold a current certificate you must complete the workbook.
Course Requirements
If You do not have a current First Aid Certificate
- 1 day course (27 June 2010)
-
Completion of workbook prior to course day.
If Your First Aid Certificate is current
-
1 day course (27 June 2010)
-
People who have a current First Aid Certificate do not have to complete the workbook, however a copy of their current certificate must be attached to the inside front cover.
Important: Check the validity of your certificate before you decide not to fill in the workbook. Check the date on your certificate to ensure it has not expired. If it has expired and your workbook is not complete a First Aid Certificate will not be released!
This course is available to all AHA Members.
The following people are booked into the course:
- Andrew Dunn
- Annette Marie
- Daniel Marie
- Dominic Salsiccia
- Kevin Brown
- Matt Geister
- Paul Janiszewski
- Simon Callaghan
